A few days ago, we published the first version of the ichini! home workout app that always gives you fresh challenges, for whatever amount of time you can find (read all about it at What Is This, ichini!?). But that was really just the start. There’s a long list of features we’re planning to add over the next weeks and months, and here’s a sneak peek at what’s coming!

Before we begin, if you have a favorite, we’d love to hear about it! This will help us make decisions on which features to prioritize. And if you have your own ideas for how to make this app even more fun, we’d be happy to add those to the roadmap as well. That being said—let’s dive in!

Feature Ideas

Here’s the list of features we’d like to share. Some of them are already in progress, others are queued up, while some remain in planning.

👎 Dislike-Exercise Button

A button shown during the workout that will allow you to ban the current exercise from future workouts. You’ll also be able to exclude exercises before even requesting your workout.

👍 Include-Exercise Setting

With this feature, when requesting today’s challenge, you’ll be able to select exercises you definitely want to appear in the workout.

🎤 Encores

One of the strengths of the app is that you can get yourself to start by allowing yourself to do even the shortest workouts. It’s surprisingly hard to make excuses for doing a 10-minute workout. And since, once you started, it’s often not as bad as you thought, ichini! will invite you to take on one or more additional exercises at the end of the planned workout: encore exercises.

☯️ Mixing In Cognitive Exercises

This one’s very experimental but we think mixing cognitive exercises into workouts might be fun. For example, you might be presented with a 9 x 9 grid with a highlighted path from left to right, then you do an exercise, and then you’d trace the previously highlighted path from memory during the next break or similar variations. This is going to be fully optional, of course.

🔧 Workout Editor

A lot of work went into our workout player already—and we’re not done yet! To make the most of it, we want to give users who prefer to design their workout manually the chance to do so in a workout editor. Once created, they will be able to play the workout themselves and—optionally—also share it with the community.

⏱️ Additional Workout Styles

Currently ichini! delivers timed interval workouts. Going forward, we plan to add more options such as repetition-based workout blocks with a fixed number of repetitions (e.g. EMOM—Every Minute On the Minute), which are better suited for goals like strength and endurance.

👯 Partner Workouts

The idea is to allow two people to do a workout together while still making sure it is tailored to each user’s level. The workout structure would be the same for both, which means they can take their breaks together. However, some exercises will vary to match each participant’s individual capabilities.

🧠 Workout Generation Algorithm

The ideas above, of course, don’t mean we’ll neglect the core functionality: the workout generation algorithm. There’s a long list of ideas to make it faster and—most importantly—smarter, to guide you towards your goals more efficiently without losing the diversity that make it special.
